Tradisi Sinamot Dalam Adat Perkawinan Suka Batak Toba di Kabupaten Simalugun

Abstract

This research aims to examine the Sinamot Tradition in the marriage custom of the Toba Batak tribe in Simalungun Regency. Marriage customs are an integral part of the life of the Toba Batak community, and the Sinamot Tradition is one of the distinctive and important aspects of their marriage procession. The research method used is a descriptive approach with data collection through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies.The results showed that the Sinamot Tradition is a series of rituals and customary procedures carried out before, during, and after a Toba Batak wedding. This ritual involves the families of the bride and groom as a form of approval for the marriage. The procession begins with a meeting between the two sides of the family to discuss issues such as dowry (property or money), the terms of marriage, as well as formal approval from the man to the prospective wife. In addition, the Sinamot Tradition also includes ceremonies such as rap pejabat (respect for traditional elders), mangulosi bulung (giving gifts as an expression of gratitude), and the implementation of marriage events in accordance with local traditions. The whole procession has a deep symbolic meaning for the Toba Batak community as a manifestation of their social, cultural and religious values.
