DINAMIKA AKULTURASI BUDAYA TIONGHOA KOTA MEDAN: STUDI KASUS PERAYAAN TAHUN BARU IMLEK DI KOTA MEDAN

Abstract

The acculturation of Chinese culture in Medan, Indonesia has a rich and long history. Medan is one of the cities with a significant Chinese population in Indonesia, and Chinese culture has formed a large part of the city's identity. One clear example of the acculturation of Chinese culture in Medan is the architectural forms of the corners of Medan city which are strongly influenced by Chinese culture. The acculturation of Chinese culture in Medan cannot be separated from the role of the Kingdom of Deli as a worldwide trade hub, so many Chinese traders from mainland China came to Medan in the 19th and early 20th centuries. They brought Chinese culture, including their language, religion, traditions and trading practices to Medan. What's interesting is that many other tribes in Medan visit Chinese temples and places of worship during Chinese New Year celebrations. They participate in religious activities such as collective prayers, ancestor worship, and asking for blessings. It shows respect and a desire to share experiences and traditions with the Chinese community, it shows their appreciation for Chinese culture and their enthusiasm in celebrating the celebration in an inclusive way.
