One of the health problems is infection. Bacteria are the most common cause. Antibiotic use is increasing because of more bacterial infections. This condition can cause the risk of antibiotic resistance. In children, antibiotic resistance can occur in conditions that impact mortality, morbidity, and high medical costs. This study aims to determine the evaluation of antibiotic use and a description of the evaluation of antibiotic use with the ATC/DDD method from medical records of hospitalized patients receiving antibiotic therapy. The research method used is observational research (non-experimental) with a quantitative approach, which includes analysis of patient characteristics and antibiotic use patterns. The results showed that the cephalosporin antibiotic group (80.4%) was used most often. The most common type of antibiotic used was ceftriaxone (38.8%). The most common type of treatment was intravenous (56.1%). In quantitative evaluation using the ATC/DDD method, the antibiotic with the highest DDD/100 patient days value was cefixime, with 124.46, and the antibiotic with the lowest DDD/100 patient days value was Ripampicin, with 0.04. The conclusion of this study is based on the analysis of antibiotic use using the ATC/DDD approach, regarding the Medan Haji General Hospital in 2024. Antibiotic use was evaluated using the ATC/DDD approach, resulting in a total DDD/100 inpatient days value of 202.11%. Cefixime had the highest DDD/100 inpatient days value, which was 120.15%, with a total antibiotic length of stay (LOS) of 325 days.
Yurike ElandaNurcahaya SigalinggingArmansyah Maulana HUmi Hani Azizah

Fatigue due to excessive activity can be overcome with stimulants, but the use of synthetic stimulants carries the risk of side effects. This study aims to determine the stimulant activity of cocoa leaf infusion (Theobroma cacao L) and to determine the best dose that can increase central nervous system stimulation in white mice (Mus musculus). Synthetic stimulants often cause side effects, so natural alternatives are needed. This study tested the stimulant effect of cocoa leaf infusion (Theobroma cacao L.) on white mice (Mus musculus) using a rotarod test. Mice were divided into five groups: negative control (distilled water), positive control (caffeine 100 mg/kgBW), and infusion with doses of 50, 100, and 150 mg/kgBW. The results showed that all infusion doses significantly increased the survival time of mice compared to the negative control (p < 0.05). The dose of 150 mg/kgBW gave the effect closest to caffeine. Phytochemical tests showed the presence of alkaloids and flavonoids that are suspected to play a role in stimulant activity. Cocoa leaf infusion has the potential as a natural stimulant.
Vera Nurhidayatul FadilaBagas ArdiyantoroTiara Ajeng Listyani

Cuts are a common type of wound and require proper treatment to accelerate the healing process and prevent infection. Breadfruit leaves (Artocarpus altilis) are known to contain flavonoids, tannins, and saponins, which have anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties and can stimulate tissue regeneration. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a 70% ethanol extract of breadfruit leaves on wound healing and to determine the most effective concentration. This study used an experimental method with male New Zealand White rabbits as test animals. The rabbits were divided into six treatment groups: a positive control (bioplacenton®), a negative control (distilled water), no treatment, and groups with extract concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75%. The treatments were administered twice daily for 14 days. Data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA followed by a LSD (Least Significant Different. The results showed that a 70% ethanol extract of breadfruit leaves at a concentration of 75% provided the best wound healing effect, nearly comparable to the positive control. This effectiveness is thought to stem from active compounds that work synergistically to accelerate tissue regeneration.
Iknacia SyahadatunRahmat HidayatAnita Dwi Septiarini

The lips are sensitive and prone to dryness and chapping, requiring special care. This study aimed to develop a Lip Balm preparation that meets physical quality standards and to determine its activity as a lip moisturizer. It also determined the optimal concentration for a Lip Balm formulation using a combination of 70% ethanol extract of Aloe vera and avocado (Persea americana Mill.) pulp. Aloe vera contains lignin, and avocado contains vitamins A, C, and E, which are essential for skin health. This study was conducted experimentally using five formula variations: F0 (0%), F1 (10%), F2 (15%), F3 (20%), and a positive control (Vaseline Repairing Jelly). Physical quality evaluation included organoleptic testing, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesion, spreadability, moisture testing, irritation testing, hedonic testing, and stability testing. The results showed that all formulas had a semi-solid texture and color, varying depending on the extract concentration, were homogeneous, had a pH within the safe range (4.5-6.5), and met physical quality requirements. Moisture testing showed an increase in lip moisture levels after 14 days of use, with formula F3 providing the best moisturizing effect. In conclusion, the combination of Aloe vera and avocado (Persea americana Mill) extracts can be formulated into an effective Lip Balm as a natural lip moisturizer, with the best concentration in formula F3, with a moisture value of 47.3%.
Sururul Kamalin MasrurohTatiana Siska WardaniTiara Ajeng Listyani

https://jurnal.uimedan.ac.id/index.php/JURNALFARMASI/article/view/2001

Candida infection caused by Candida albicans is a common health problem, especially in the skin and female reproductive organs. In Indonesia, the prevalence of candidiasis is around 20–25%, with a predominance in the hair, skin, mucous membranes, mouth, and esophagus. In Lampung Province, candidiasis incidents include severe intertrigo (56%), mild intertrigo (44%), axillary candidiasis (52%), and breast candidiasis (20%). This study aimed to evaluate the antifungal activity of a combination of garlic bulb (Allium sativum L.) and red betel leaf (Piper ornatum N.E.Br) extracts against the growth of Candida albicans. This study used a laboratory experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), consisting of a negative control (distilled water), a positive control (fluconazole), and a combination of extracts with a ratio of 20%:20%, 20%:40%, and 40%:40%. The extract was obtained through maceration method, and antifungal activity was measured based on the inhibition zone. Phytochemical tests showed the presence of active compounds such as saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and steroids that act as antifungals. The results of the disc diffusion test showed the average diameter of the inhibition zone as follows: 0 mm (negative control), 6.49 ± 1.05 mm (positive control), 2.9 ± 0.26 mm (P1, weak), 4.15 ± 1.57 mm (P2, weak), 5.68 ± 2.73 mm (P3, moderate), and 6.81 ± 1.92 mm (P4, moderate). Statistical tests showed significant differences between negative and positive controls and treatments 2 and 3. In conclusion, the combination of garlic and red betel leaf extract, especially P4, has antifungal potential against Candida albicans.
Nadhila Fahira ArtadevyAnnajim DaskarVicko SuswidiantoroWina Safutri
