Post-Publication Discussion

Jurnal Ilmiah Keperawatan Imelda (JIKI) is fully committed to maintaining the quality, transparency, and integrity of the scientific record in nursing science. Following article publication, the journal encourages members of the academic community, researchers, practitioners, and other stakeholders to provide scientific feedback, constructive criticism, clarifications, or reports of potential errors in published articles.

This policy is guided by the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and journal publication ethics standards.

Forms of Post-Publication Discussion

  1. Letter to the Editor
Readers may submit written comments or critical evaluations regarding articles previously published in the journal. Submissions must directly relate to the scientific content of the article, be supported by appropriate evidence or strong academic arguments, and be presented in a polite, professional, and constructive manner. Letters containing offensive language, personal attacks, defamatory statements, or unsubstantiated allegations will not be considered. All incoming letters will be evaluated by the Editorial Board to determine relevance, scientific weight, and suitability for publication.
  2. Author Response
Authors of original articles will be given the opportunity to respond to comments, questions, or criticisms raised by readers. Where appropriate, author responses may be published alongside the corresponding Letter to the Editor to ensure a balanced, transparent, and comprehensive scientific record.
  3. Commentary Articles
For scientific issues that provoke substantial academic debate or require further critical examination, the journal may consider publishing short commentary articles. Such contributions will undergo editorial assessment and, if appropriate, a peer-review process to ensure scientific validity, relevance, and academic quality.

Post-Publication Discussion Platforms

To facilitate communication among readers, authors, researchers, and the Editorial Board, post-publication discussion can take place through the following platforms:

  1. Open Journal Systems (OJS)

Discussion Platform Guidelines

All participants in post-publication discussions are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Participants must uphold academic integrity, professional behavior, mutual respect, and ethical communication in all discussions.
  • Discussions must remain focused on scientific content, methodology, findings, interpretations, or implications of published articles.
  • Advertisements, spam, irrelevant links, offensive material, defamatory statements, personal attacks, and other inappropriate content are strictly prohibited.
  • Discussions held via WhatsApp and Telegram are informal and do not replace the journal's official editorial procedures.
  • Matters requiring formal editorial action, including corrections, expressions of concern, or article retractions, must be submitted in writing via the journal's OJS platform or official email address.
  • Group administrators reserve the right to issue warnings, restrict participation, or remove members who violate these guidelines.
  • The Editorial Board may review and summarize substantial scientific discussions for consideration in editorial evaluations or further actions, where appropriate.

Procedure for Formal Letter Submissions

Readers wishing to submit a Letter to the Editor for potential publication must send their manuscript through the journal's OJS platform or via the official editorial email address.

Submission Details:

Journal Website: https://jurnal.uimedan.ac.id/index.php/JURNALKEPERAWATAN

Email: jurnalkeperawatanimelda@gmail.com

Email Subject: "Post-Publication Discussion – [Article Title/DOI]"

Submissions must include the sender's full name, institutional affiliation, valid email address, and clear identification of the article being discussed. The letter must clearly outline the issues raised and provide appropriate scientific evidence, references, or supporting documentation.

The Editorial Board will acknowledge and evaluate submissions in accordance with journal editorial procedures. An initial response is expected within 30 working days of receipt, depending on the complexity of the issue raised and the need for further assessment. The journal reserves the right to request clarification, additional evidence, or revisions before deciding whether a submission is suitable for publication.

Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions

If post-publication discussions or other reliable reports identify potential errors, inaccuracies, or concerns regarding the integrity of published articles, the journal may initiate an editorial investigation and take appropriate action in accordance with COPE guidelines and the journal's publication ethics policy.

Depending on the nature and severity of the identified issue, the following actions may be taken:

  1. Correction (Erratum/Corrigendum)
A correction may be published when errors are identified in a published article that do not substantially affect the validity of the research findings or main conclusions. Such errors may include typographical errors, incorrect numerical values, inaccuracies in tables or figures, or other minor reporting mistakes. Correction notices will be published transparently and linked to the original article to ensure readers can access the updated scientific record.
  2. Expression of Concern
An Expression of Concern may be published when reliable concerns arise regarding the reliability, ethical conduct, or integrity of a published article, but available evidence is insufficient to warrant an immediate correction or retraction. This notice may be published while an investigation is ongoing or when significant concerns remain unresolved. The journal will provide updates or take further editorial action as additional evidence becomes available.
  3. Article Retraction
A retraction may be issued when serious errors, research misconduct, plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, unethical research practices, or other substantial issues undermine the reliability or validity of published findings. Retraction decisions will be made following careful editorial evaluation and, where appropriate, consultation with authors, their home institutions, or other relevant parties. All retraction notices will provide a clear and transparent explanation of the reasons for retraction and will be properly linked to the original publication. Retracted articles will remain accessible as part of the academic record, with a clear indication of their retracted status, in accordance with applicable publication ethics guidelines.
