Authorship Criteria

Jurnal Ilmiah Perekam dan Informasi Kesehatan Imelda (JIPIKI) is fully committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity in scientific publication. Authorship credit not only confers academic prestige but also carries responsibility and accountability for the published work. Therefore, JIPIKI adopts the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) framework, and the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Authorship Requirements

An individual may only be listed as an author if they meet all four of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work.
  2. Drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content.
  3. Final approval of the version to be published.
  4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All individuals who meet all four criteria above must be listed as authors. Individuals who do not meet all four criteria should not be listed as authors.

2. Contributions That Do Not Qualify for Authorship

The following contributions do not independently justify inclusion as an author. With their consent, such contributors may be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section:

  • Routine technical, administrative, or laboratory assistance.
  • Provision of funding, facilities, or research materials.
  • Holding a structural position, such as department chair, dean, or laboratory head, without making a substantial intellectual contribution to the research.

3. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

JIPIKI does not tolerate the following unethical authorship practices:

  • Ghost authorship: omitting or excluding individuals who actually meet authorship criteria.
  • Gift or guest authorship: including individuals who have not made a meaningful contribution to the research.
  • Authorship trading: buying, selling, or swapping authorship positions in scientific publications.

4. Corresponding Author

The corresponding author must be indicated with an asterisk (*) in the manuscript and must provide an active phone/WhatsApp number and a valid email address. The corresponding author is responsible for:

  • Communicating with the journal during the manuscript submission, peer review, and post-publication processes.
  • Ensuring that all listed authors meet authorship criteria, have approved the final version of the manuscript, and have agreed to the author order.
  • Submitting the manuscript through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform in accordance with JIPIKI author guidelines.

5. Author Contribution Statement

Every manuscript submitted to JIPIKI must include an Author Contribution Statement based on the CRediT taxonomy. The statement must use the initials of each author's name and clearly describe their specific contributions.

Example:

ZS: Conceptualization and Methodology.

PS: Writing – Original Draft Preparation.

SQ: Writing – Review & Editing.

6. Changes to Author List or Order

Requests to add, remove, or reorder author names after manuscript submission must meet the following requirements:

  • The request must be submitted in writing by the corresponding author to the Editor-in-Chief, along with a clear rationale and justification.
  • Written agreement must be obtained from all authors, including any author whose name is being removed.
  • An updated Author Contribution Statement must be provided.

JIPIKI reserves the right to suspend publication until all necessary documentation and approvals have been fully received.

7. Authorship Disputes

Determining who qualifies for authorship is the collective responsibility of the authors, not the journal management. If an authorship dispute arises, the Editorial Board may request clarification from the authors' affiliated institutions. Such disputes will be handled in accordance with COPE guidelines.

8. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility or accountability for scientific work. Any use of AI tools in manuscript preparation must be disclosed transparently in accordance with applicable journal policies. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and content of their manuscript, including verifying all AI-generated information and references.
