3. Similarity Screening

All manuscripts submitted to JIPIKI undergo similarity screening using plagiarism detection software, such as Turnitin or iThenticate, before proceeding to the peer review stage.

If the revised manuscript continues to exceed the permitted similarity threshold after resubmission, the manuscript will be rejected. Similarity screening serves as an initial assessment tool. The editorial team will also consider the nature, extent, and context of textual similarities when evaluating potential plagiarism.

4. Levels of Plagiarism and Corrective Actions

JIPIKI classifies plagiarism violations into three levels according to their nature, extent, and severity:

Violation Level Examples Corrective Actions
Minor Limited textual similarity, citation errors, or minor textual overlap in the Methods section. The manuscript will be returned to the authors for correction and revision.
Moderate Self-plagiarism or unauthorized copying of certain sections of a manuscript. The manuscript will be rejected. Authors may submit a revised manuscript after substantial revision.
Severe Extensive copying, plagiarism of another person's work, or duplicate publication. The manuscript will be rejected. Authors may receive a formal written warning, may be prohibited from submitting manuscripts to JIPIKI, and their affiliated institutions may be notified.

The editorial team will evaluate each suspected violation based on the available evidence and the principles of fairness, transparency, and publication ethics.

5. Plagiarism Identified After Publication

If plagiarism is identified in an article that has already been published, JIPIKI will conduct an investigation in accordance with the guidelines and procedures established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, corrective actions may include:

  • Erratum or Correction: Publication of a formal correction when the identified issue can be appropriately addressed without invalidating the scientific integrity of the article.
  • Expression of Concern: Publication of an editorial notice when serious concerns regarding the originality or integrity of an article remain unresolved.
  • Retraction: Formal withdrawal of a published article when substantial plagiarism or other serious violations of publication ethics have been confirmed.

JIPIKI may notify the authors and their affiliated institutions of the investigation findings and any resulting editorial decisions. All corrective actions will be implemented in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and relevant COPE guidelines.

Authors bear full responsibility for ensuring the originality, authenticity, accuracy, and academic integrity of their submitted manuscripts. Authors must ensure that all materials obtained from other sources are properly cited and acknowledged in accordance with the journal's referencing requirements.

In manuscripts involving multiple authors, all listed authors share responsibility for complying with the journal's plagiarism policy and may be subject to the same sanctions if a violation is confirmed.
